UC San Diego encourages opportunities to exchange information and ideas, and promote long-term relationships, with institutions globally. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) reviews and prioritizes short-term visit requests so that the resources and visitor support services provided by UC San Diego administrators, faculty and staff can be allocated to best serve the interests of UC San Diego and the State of California. For the purpose of the procedures outlined below, a prospective short-term international visitor is a representative of a foreign university, institution or business who requests to meet with UC San Diego faculty, staff or administrators for the purpose of exploring possible collaborations, or learning about our programs, governance, and organization. Such visitors are usually on campus from a few hours to a couple of days. The nature of a short-term visit request is exploratory, and does not encompass official University commitments such as appointments for visiting scholars, visiting graduate students and visiting faculty.
Prospective short-term international visitors interested
in meeting with UC San Diego administrators, faculty or
staff are required to submit a completed
Short-Term International Visit Request Form
and a CV or professional biographical statement for each
visitor at least
three weeks [21 days] prior to the proposed visit date. Upon receipt of the Visit Request Form and visitor
biographies, OIA will consult
with senior administrators and academic and research
leadership as appropriate to determine whether UC San Diego
is able to support the requested visit. We regret that it is
not possible to fulfill all requests to meet with UC San
Diego administrators, faculty and staff, due to the high
volume of requests and many other competing priorities. Short-Term International Visit Request Form (PDF) Short-Term International Visit Request Form (Word)

Meals and Interpretation Service We regret that we are unable to pay for visitor’s meals.
Should a lunch meeting be arranged, we ask that the visiting
party pay for their own meals. For the delegation to receive maximum benefit from their
visit, they should either have a working knowledge of
English, or be accompanied by an interpreter. UC San Diego
is not able to provide interpretation services. Collaboration Proposals If the sole purpose of visiting UC San Diego is to
develop a collaborative relationship with our campus, please
submit a collaboration proposal for UC San Diego’s
consideration before planning your
visit.

proposal. Campus Tours |
